Hawkins International is always looking for opportunities to engage with the travel community through social media and we’ve found Twitter chats to be a fun, interesting way to tap into people who are filled with just as much #wanderlust as we are. In case you want to join in the travel tweeting trend, we’ve compiled a few of our favorite travel-themed Twitter chats so that you can participate as well!
Travel + Leisure runs one of the most well-known Twitter chats which features a different theme every week, ranging from ‘World’s Best’ to ‘It’s all about the Journey’. The chats are run through the @TravelLeisure twitter handle and you can find both travel brands and travel lovers participating each week. The chats are run by industry experts and feature questions like: “Define a journey in 3 words” and “What’s the one thing you take with you to remind you of home?”
These chats occur Tuesdays at 2PM EST, and you can sign up for the chat by emailing “Yes” to TLSocial@timeinc.com.
This chat is run by Passion Passport which is a website whose mission is to “elevate the conversation from talking about things to talking about experiences.” The chats are run from the handle @passionpassport and features themes such as ‘Travel Planning’ and ‘Travel Tech’. The chats feature questions like: “When you set out on a trip, what are you most excited for? Nervous about?” and “What tools or apps do you find invaluable for travel planning?”
These chats occur every Thursday at 2PM EST and information about the chats can be found on the Passion Passport website under the community tab.
Run by Expedia, this Twitter chat has specific topics such as ‘South America’ or ‘Event Travel’ and you can win prizes such as travel vouchers for your participation. The chat, run through the @Expedia handle, is very popular and many brands participate every week! Typical chat questions include: “If you could go on a travel #photography tour anywhere in the world, where would you go?” and “Let’s talk travel souvenirs. What item do you love to bring home with you to remind you of your trip?”
These chats occur every Wednesday at 2PM EST with a different topic every week. They do not distribute the questions in advance, but you can find information about the topic by visiting their calendar of events the day of the chat.
“Travel Talk on Twitter” was one of the first Twitter chats and is still very popular among travel aficionados and brands! There are a list of hosts who run the show every week, and the chats include topics such as ‘Tips for Safe Travel’ and ‘Home Swapping and Homestays’. The questions come from specific hots which are announced every week on the Travel Talk on Twitter Facebook page and gives the option for people to submit their own questions to be featured in the chat.
These chats occur every Tuesday at 9:30AM EST, and you can follow along with the hashtag #ttot to find the latest travel news and information!
Every week, Johnny Jet and Chris McGinnis co-host the popular #TravelSkills Twitter Chat. These chats are regularly sponsored by some of the biggest brand names in travel, and each chat generates tens of millions social media impressions. Topics range from ‘Road Trip USA’ to ‘Hotel Design’ and questions include: “What’s the best roadside attraction in the US?” and “What’s the most beautiful, coolest or hippest hotel you’ve ever stayed at? Why?”
These chats occur every Friday at 12PM EST, and interested parties can receive weekly reminders and preview upcoming chat questions by sending an email to chat@TravelSkills.com with “YES” in the subject line.
Travel site BootsnAll hosts the weekly #RTWChat (which stands for Round-the-World Chat) that focuses on all aspects of long-term, global travel. The goal of the chat is to bring together the travel community from brands to seasoned pros to first-time travelers. Typical chats include tips, information, photos and personal anecdotes all about travel.
